“The Tamiami Champion” trains (New York to Florida) collide in Rennert, North Carolina 74 people were killed and 200 injured on the Atlantic Coast Line when the northbound Tamiami Champion struck the derailed rear three carriages of its southbound counterpart. It remains the deadliest train wreck ever in North Carolina.
