British battleship Prince of Wales and Battlecruiser Repulse (Force Z ) sunk following Japanese aerial attacks off Malaya, Southeast Asia. 840 men die. Japanese troops landed on northern Luzon in the Philippines.  Japanese troops overrun Guam.
