The 1st allied ship sails into Schelde Antwerp, Belguim.  The US 121st Infantry regiment occupies Hurtgen, Germany.  Four Hundred (400) Rotterdammers attack coal warehouse.  In reprisal, 40 Dutch men are executed by Nazis.  Detroit Tiger Pitcher Hal Newhouser is named the American League MVP.
