General George C. Marshall was named special U.S. envoy to China by President Harry S. Truman to try to end hostilities between the Nationalists and the Communists.  The trial against National Socialist Movement (NSB) leader Aton Mussert begins in the Netherlands.  Dutch resistance fighter Hannie Schaft re-buried in presence of Queen Wilhelmina.
