Hitler proclaims fall of Stalingrad from Munich beer hall.  “Operation Torch” under the command of General Dwight D. Eisenhower began as U.S. and British forces land in French North Africa. (This was the first WW II American expeditionary force to land in Africa [Gold Coast]).   Vichy-France Government drops diplomatic relations with U.S..
