Operation “Erntest” (Operation Harvest Festival) where at least 17,000 Jewish prisoners from the Majdanek camp near Lublin, Poland were shot in ditches outside the camp.  47D Thunderbolt shot down above North Holland.  Dmitri Sjostakovitch’s 8th Symphony premieres in Moscow.
