The Martha Graham ballet “Appalachian Spring” with music by Aaron Copland premiered at the Library of Congress in Washinton DC with Graham in a leading role.  Anne Frank is deported from Auschwitz to Belsen.   The last transport for Auschwitz arrives in Birkenau.  Scotish Highlanders liberate Waalwijk, Netherlands.  Sweden announces intention to stay neutral & refuses sanctuary.  Tholen Island (Netherlands) freed.
