Allied troops capture Marseille, France as General George Leclerc’s troops advance towards Paris. General Bernard Montgomery consults with Generals Omar Bradley and Dwight D. Eisenhower.  Romanian King Michael I orders military forces to cease fire against the Allies and dismisses pro-Axis Prime Minister Ion Antonescu paving the way for Romania to abandon the Axis in favor of the Allies.  The Sammellager Drancy transit prison camp was freed.  U.S. Army XX Corps enters Fontainebleau & Melun de Seine France.   A U.S. Liberator B-24 bomber crashes into school in Freckelton, England killing 76.
