Prime Minister Winston Churchill visits General Bernard Montgomery’s headquarters in Burj-al-Arab, Egypt. Almost 6,000 Canadian and British soldiers launched a disastrous raid against the Germans at Dieppe, France suffering over 4,000 casualties killed, wounded or captured (British LSIs involved). Commanding Officer, General Friedrich Paulus orders the German 6th Army to capture Stalingrad, Russia.
