Indonesian nationalists Sukarno and Mohammad Hatta declared Indonesia’s independence from the Netherlands.  Korea is divided into North and South Korea along the 38th parallel.  The George Orwell novel “Animal Farm”, an allegorical satire of Soviet Communism, was first published in London by Martin Secker and Warburg.
