Queen Wilhemina of the Netherlands became the first reigning queen to address a joint session of Congress, telling lawmakers that despite Nazi occupation, her people’s motto remained “No surrender.”  Dutch Jews riot for two days. (Until August 8th).  The Canadian destroyer HMCS Assiniboine sinks German submarine U-210.   Prime Minister Winston Churchill fires General Claude Auchinlek as the Middle-East commander.  German Hermann Goering proclaims occupied areas “thoroughly empty to plunder”.
