Sicily: British headquarters were bombed by three  U.S. A-36 Apache dive bombers. Soviet forces recapture Orel & Bjelgorod, Russia.  At around 11 A.M during the Battle of Troina, Mount Etna erupts sending ash and lava miles into the sky.
