This Day in History: 1943-08-03

Lt. General George S. Patton slapped a private at a U.S. Army hospital in Sicily, accusing him of cowardice.  (General Patton was later ordered by General Dwight D. Eisenhower to apologize for this and a second similar episode.)  Nazi occupiers attack city of Orel (Oryol), Russia leaving it on fire.
