British Prime Minister Winston Churchill flies to France to meet General Bernard Montgomery.  General Kuniaki Koiso becomes premier of Japan.  U.S. forces land on Guam capturing it from the Japanese (Operation Forager) some three weeks later.  Field Marshal Günther von Kluge warns Adolf Hitler of impending collapse of front in Normandy. The Democratic Party National Convention in Chicago nominated Senator Harry S. Truman to be vice president.
