U.S. troops occupy Biak during Battle of Biak, New Guinea. British 14th Army frees Imphal Assam.  Opening day of the Soviet Union’s victorious Operation Bagration against the German Army Group Centre.  President Franklin Roosevelt signed the Servicemen’s Readjustment Act of 1944, more popularly known as the  “GI Bill of Rights”. Longest shutout in Philadelphia Phillies history, as Phils beat Boston Braves 1-0 in 15 innings.  Boston Brave Jim Tobin’s 2nd no-hitter of year beats Phils, 7-0 in 5 innings in second game of double header.
