This Day in History: 1942-05-12

Some 1,500 Jews are gassed in Auschwitz.   David Ben-Gurion leaves Jewish state in Palestine.  German submarine U-507 sunk the 10,000 ton SS Virginia in the mouth of the Mississippi, killing 26 sailors in an audacious attack which shocked the American authorities.  Russia occupies Krakow, Poland until Aug 23, 1943.
