The 47th Boston Marathon was won by Gerard Cote of Canada in 2:28:25.8.  Tens of Thousands of Jews living in the Warsaw Ghetto began a valiant but futile battle against Nazi forces, led by Nazi SS Lt. General Jurgen Stoop.  Swiss chemist Dr. Albert Hofmann deliberately takes LSD for the first time.
