The Dutch Steam Merchant Alderamarin & British Steam Merchant Fort Cedar Lake are torpedoed & sunk by a German submarine.   F. Hugh Herbert’s “Kiss & Tell” premieres in NYC.  The Taoiseach of Ireland, Eamon de Valera, delivered a radio speech about “The Ireland That We Dreamed of.”  Physician Willem J. Kolff of the Netherlands performs the world’s first ‘hemodialysis’ using his artificial kidney machine, however the treatment is unsuccessful and the patient dies.
