This Day in History: 1942-03-11

The 1st deportation train leaves Paris for Auschwitz Concentration Camp.  As Japanese forces continued to advance in the Pacific, U.S. Army General Douglas MacArthur leaves Corregidor (Bataan) for Australia where he vowed on March 20th, “I shall return”–a promise he kept more than 2 1/2 years later.  Japanese troops land on North Sumatra.
