This Day in History: 1942-02-28

The heavy cruiser USS Houston and the Australian light cruiser HMAS Perth were attacked by Japanese forces during the Battle of Sunda Strait; both were sunk shortly after midnight on March 1 with a total loss of more than 1,000 men.  The 1st weapons drop on the Netherlands.  Japanese land in Java, the last Allied bastion in Dutch East Indies.   Race riot at the Sojourner Truth Homes, Detroit, Michigan.
