During the battle for Iwo Jima, the escort carrier USS Bismarck Sea was sunk by kamikazes with the loss of 318 men.  Dutch Archbishop Johannes De Jong calls for help with war casualties.  British Army captures Goch, Germany.  U.S. 10th Armor Division overthrows Orscholz Switch (Siegfried line).
