President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066 which paved the way for the relocation and internment of people of Japanese ancestry, including U.S.-born citizens.  Japanese troops land on Timor, Indonesia.  About 150 Japanese warplanes attack the Australian city of Darwin killing 243 people.  Dutch actors protest obligatory membership of Culture Chamber.  Tommy Dorsey & his orchestra recorded “I’ll Take Tallulah”.  The New York Yankees announce that 5,000 uniformed soldiers will be admitted free at each of their upcoming home games.
